Between 2021 and 2023, serious car collision statistics in Petaluma showed a modest decline in total victims killed or injured. In 2021, the city reported 202 fatal and injury victims, ranking 42nd among comparable California cities. In 2022, that count increased to 224 victims, and the ranking remained similar, reflecting a short-term rise in serious collisions. By 2023, the total fell to 183 victims, with Petaluma’s ranking adjusting to 57th in its group, indicating fewer serious crashes relative to peers. Alcohol-involved collisions decreased slightly from 31 to 27 victims between 2021 and 2023, and the number of DUI arrests more than doubled to 340 in 2023, which may reflect enhanced enforcement efforts. Motorcycle-related serious collisions increased from 9 to 15 victims, while pedestrian and bicyclist injury counts were relatively stable. Speed-related serious collisions also rose, suggesting evolving risk factors on local roads. These year-over-year changes illustrate some improvement in overall serious collision totals amid mixed trends in contributing crash types.
