Los Angeles County remains California’s most crash-prone region, though it has seen a notable decline in fatal outcomes. In 2024, the county recorded 653 traffic fatalities, a 25% decrease from the 868 deaths reported in 2022. Despite this improvement, the volume of incidents remains high, with approximately 58,659 crashes resulting in injury or death annually. DUI-related incidents continue to be a primary concern, accounting for over 6,300 injuries and deaths in 2024. Additionally, pedestrian fatalities remain disproportionately high, particularly among the unhoused population, where traffic-related deaths increased by 25% in the most recent reporting cycle.
Current data from the 2025–2026 Vision Zero County Progress Report indicates that half of all fatal and severe collisions occur on just 3.8% of county-maintained roads, known as “Collision Concentration Corridors.”
