Los Angeles County remains the most crash-prone region in California, though it is seeing a gradual decline in fatal outcomes. In 2024, the county recorded 653 traffic fatalities, a significant 25% decrease from the 868 deaths reported in 2022. Despite this improvement, the sheer volume of incidents remains staggering, with over 58,000 crashes resulting in death or injury annually. The county continues to struggle with high rates of DUI-related incidents, which accounted for over 6,300 injuries and deaths in 2024, and hit-and-run fatalities, which claimed 106 lives in the same period.
Data from the 2025-2026 Vision Zero County Progress Report indicates that half of all fatal and severe injury collisions occur on just 3.8% of county-maintained roads.
