Madison County, FL – One person is dead while two others were severely injured following a head-on collision that took place in Madison County on Saturday afternoon.
According to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident took place on Northeast Dusty Miller Avenue at around 4:15 p.m. March 7.
The FHP reported that a 76-year-old man was driving down Dusty Miller Avenue when he drifted across the center line and crashed head-on with an oncoming SUV. Authorities were still unable to determine why the elderly driver moved out of his lane of travel.
Troopers and emergency medical personnel immediately responded to the scene shortly after receiving reports of the accident.
The 76-year-old driver was rushed to THM, where he was pronounced deceased. His name was not immediately released pending notification of the next-of-kin.
The two occupants of the SUV were also transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Authorities reported that both patients were Panama City residents.
As a result of the accident, Dusty Miller Avenue was temporarily blocked as authorities worked to clear the scene.
Additional information on the crash were not immediately released. The Florida Highway Patrol is handling an ongoing investigation into the incident.
