Between 2021 and 2023, motorcycle-involved serious collisions in San Diego showed a declining trend in OTS fatal and injury victim counts. In 2021, there were 493 motorcyclist victims killed or injured, ranking the city 3rd among similarly sized California cities for motorcycle involvement. By 2022, that count fell to 405 victims (ranking 5th), and in 2023 it declined further to 349 victims, placing San Diego 4th statewide in this category. These year-over-year changes suggest a reduction in reported serious motorcycle collision involvement despite ongoing risk exposure in the city. Alcohol-involved collisions and total fatal and injury crashes also showed variability across these years, and motorcycle trends occurred alongside broader shifts in other crash types. While total counts declined, San Diego’s motorcycle crash ranking remained high relative to peers, reflecting persistent safety challenges and exposure for riders within the city’s traffic environment.
