Hayward, CA – The woman who was hit and killed by a vehicle while crossing a street with her grandson in Hayward on Saturday evening has been identified.
Olga Hernandez, 59, of Hayward, according to the Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau, was the victim of the accident that took place on West Tennyson Road and Baldwin Street at about 6:20 p.m. February 14.
A preliminary investigation determined that Hernandez and her 6-year-old grandson were trying to walk across the intersection when they were hit by a vehicle. The report indicates that the accident happened as the pedestrians were walking in a crosswalk.
Hayward police said Hernandez was rushed to a hospital, where she was declared deceased. The boy was also taken to the hospital with facial fractures. A GoFundMe page has been created to aid in the funeral arrangements for Hernandez and medical expenses for her grandson.
The involved driver, a 60-year-old, stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigators. According to police, impairment was not believed to have played a role in the accident.
The circumstances of the crash remained under investigation by the Hayward Police Department.

Hayward, CA – A 59-year-old woman died, and a 6-year-old boy was hospitalized after they were struck by a vehicle Saturday evening at an intersection in Hayward.
Around 6:21 p.m. on February 14, officers responded to Tennyson Road and Baldwin Street after they were notified about a pedestrian accident.
The officers found the woman and the boy suffering from serious injuries. Paramedics responded and transported both victims to a nearby hospital. The woman later died from her injuries. The boy was treated for facial injuries and is expected to survive.
The 60-year-old Hayward man driving the car stopped and remained at the scene. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be contributing factors on his part.
