Crook County, OR – One person was killed and another seriously injured after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 126 on Wednesday morning, according to the Oregon State Police (OSP).

The crash occurred on Highway 126 near milepost 7 at approximately 9:04 a.m. on January 28, 2026, OSP confirmed.

OSP reported that a westbound Jeep Cherokee crossed the centerline for unknown reasons and struck an eastbound Freightliner box truck head-on. The Jeep was operated by 25-year-old Aspen Hadley of Bend, and the Freightliner was operated by 35-year-old Leah Laforest of Redmond.

The operator of the Jeep, Aspen Hadley, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Freightliner operator, Leah Laforest, sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital. No arrests were reported.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation, with authorities reviewing why the Jeep crossed the centerline.

OSP was assisted by the Crook County Sheriff’s Office in responding to the scene and managing the investigation.

Highway 126 was impacted for approximately three hours during the on-scene investigation, causing temporary traffic delays in the area.

The Crook County crash remains under investigation by the Oregon State Police as authorities continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the collision.
