San Mateo, CA – A pedestrian was killed Friday morning after being struck by a vehicle at a busy San Mateo intersection, authorities said.

Officers responded to the scene after receiving reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash and found a woman suffering from critical injuries.
Paramedics took the pedestrian to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The victim’s identity was not immediately released, pending notification of next of kin.
The driver involved remained at the location following the collision, police said.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the car turned north from Bovet Road onto South El Camino and struck the woman as she was crossing in the north crosswalk of South El Camino Real at 17th Avenue. Bovet Road becomes 17th Avenue on the east side of the intersection.
Authorities temporarily closed lanes of El Camino Real and the westbound Highway 92 off-ramp to South El Camino Real for about three hours while investigators examined the scene and collected evidence. The circumstances leading up to the crash were not immediately clear.
The incident remains under investigation.
