Sacramento, CA – A 38-year-old man died a day after a collision caused by a driver who crossed the center median last week on Thursday in Sacramento, according to the authorities.
The incident took place on Watt Avenue and Auburn Boulevard on Thursday, January 15.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a vehicle heading east on Auburn Boulevard was turning onto southbound Watt Avenue when it drifted across the raised center median. The vehicle collided with a northbound vehicle in the left turn lane.
The first car then crashed into a third vehicle that was traveling northbound on Watt Avenue.
Two occupants of the second vehicle were transported to a hospital with major injuries. One of them was pronounced deceased at the hospital on Friday.
The deceased victim was identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as 38-year-old Jimmy Salgado of Sacramento.
No one in the third vehicle was injured in the accident.
According to the CHP, the adult male driver of the first vehicle was not suspected to have been driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The California Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation into the deadly collision.

Alcohol-involved collisions numbered 454, the highest in its group, and speed-related fatal and injury collisions were 745, also ranking 1st. Pedestrian and bicyclist injuries were significant, with 297 pedestrians and 237 bicyclists killed or injured, both ranking in the top quarter of peer cities. Nighttime and hit-and-run collisions were also common, with 438 nighttime and 581 hit-and-run collisions, ranking 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Sacramento logged 880 DUI arrests in 2023. In 2022, the city similarly had high OTS figures with 4,008 killed or injured and top rankings for alcohol and other serious crash categories, underscoring ongoing traffic safety challenges.
