Ferndale, WA – A woman was killed in a collision between two vehicles on Tuesday afternoon near Ferndale, according to a report by the Washington State Patrol.
At around 3:50 p.m. January 20, authorities responded to reports of a collision on Interstate 5 south of Ferndale.
According to WSP, a 27-year-old man from Blaine, was driving a gray Chevy Silverado northbound on Interstate 5 when he drifted across the grassy median and collided head-on with a southbound Tesla Model 3.
The Chevy came to a stop on southbound I-5 and was struck shortly after by a Hyundai Tucson.
The driver of the Tesla, identified as Momina Khan, 22, died at the scene of the accident. A 22-year-old female passenger in the Tesla was taken to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham with unspecified injuries.
The occupants of the Hyundai, a 20-year-old woman, an 8-year-old boy, and a 37-year-old man, were not seriously injured in the crash.
According to the WSP, possible charges against the Blaine driver are pending an ongoing investigation.
The crash led to the closure of both directions of I-5 until around 9 p.m.
The Washington State Patrol is conducting an ongoing investigation into the deadly incident.
