West Covina, CA – An investigation is underway into a deadly crash that claimed the life of one person on the 10 Freeway in West Covina on Thursday evening.
According to California Highway Patrol, two vehicles were involved in the collision on the westbound freeway at Sunset Avenue at around 6:30 p.m. January 1.
A preliminary investigation determined that a dark-colored sedan, possibly a Kia, was traveling west on I-10 when the driver lost control and collided with a second vehicle. The sedan then slammed into the center divider and came to a rest on the shoulder.
The CHP responded to the incident and one party in the sedan was found to be unresponsive. The person was declared deceased at the scene. Their identity was not immediately revealed pending notification of the next-of-kin.
There was no information on the condition of others involved in the crash.
The incident caused a closure of the No. 3 and 4 westbound lanes of I-10 for an unspecified duration.
An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the California Highway Patrol.
