The crash occurred just after 5:45 p.m. at the intersection of Humphrey Road and Butte House Road.

Sutter County, CA. – A man in his 30s died Thursday evening after a single-vehicle crash at an intersection in Sutter County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred just after 5:45 p.m. at the intersection of Humphrey Road and Butte House Road.
CHP officers said a red Chevrolet Silverado traveled through the T-intersection for reasons still under investigation.
The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. No other vehicles were involved, and no additional injuries were reported.
Investigators noted that an open alcoholic beverage container was found inside the vehicle, and DUI is being investigated as a factor.
The crash did not result in any road closures.
According to the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), Sutter County ranked 7th among California’s 58 counties for the most alcohol-involved crashes, with data from 2021 indicating an “epidemic” level of cases. The District Attorney’s office reported managing over 600 DUI cases in a single year, leading to the allocation of a state grant to address the issue through specialized prosecution. Broader traffic safety metrics for California show that as of late 2025, the state has seen a downward trend in traffic fatalities, with a nearly 11% decrease statewide from 2022 to 2023. However, specific high-risk factors remain a concern for Sutter County, including unsafe speed, which was the primary crash factor in approximately 73.7% of fatal and serious injury crashes statewide in 2023
