To stay safe on California roads, always obey posted speed limits and adjust your speed for traffic, weather, and road conditions, keep your attention fully on driving by avoiding distractions like phones or eating, never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, maintain a safe following distance from other vehicles, and always wear your seat belt.

Be especially vigilant for motorcycles, bicyclists, and pedestrians at intersections and in urban areas, check mirrors and blind spots before changing lanes, use turn signals for every maneuver, and give extra space to large trucks and buses that need more room to stop or turn, while ensuring your vehicle is well‑maintained with functioning brakes, tires, and lights so you can react safely to unexpected situations
