Located in Colusa County, Williams has a low population but it has been increasing steadily over the past few years. The area recorded relatively low numbers of accidents yearly until 2022 when there was a spike. According to the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), 8 people were either hurt or killed in traffic accidents that occurred within Williams in 2022. This was nearly 5% of the total injuries and deaths recorded in Colusa County, which is also low in population and in traffic concentration compared to larger counties in California. Despite the low traffic, common driver errors that lead to accidents still occur in Williams. In 2022, nearly 37% of accidents in Williams were reported to have been speed-related. This was higher than the overall county rate for speed-related collisions. Night-time accidents in the area also contributed to 25% of the total recorded injuries and deaths. Notably, SR 20 that passes through Williams is frequently mentioned as the most dangerous road in Colusa as a result of high-speed traffic, the two-lane rural portions of the highway, and it’s nearness to the Lake County line that reports numerous accidents yearly.
