Forest Grove, OR – A 71-year-old woman was killed early Saturday morning after a vehicle struck her while she was riding a mobility scooter near a Forest Grove intersection, according to the Forest Grove Police Department.

The incident occurred at approximately 6:46 a.m. on December 6, 2025, near the intersection of Pacific Avenue and Oak Street.

According to initial findings, the collision involved one passenger vehicle and a mobility scooter. Investigators reported that the woman was traveling through the area when the vehicle made contact with her, though the direction of travel for each party has not yet been disclosed.

Shortly after officers reached the scene, medical personnel confirmed that the 71-year-old Forest Grove resident had died from her injuries. Her family has since been notified. The involved driver remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement throughout the investigation.

Authorities say the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART) responded to assist with detailed scene processing. During this time, an unrelated motorist drove past multiple warnings— including emergency lights, a road-closure sign, and a public works vehicle— and entered the restricted crash area. That driver was arrested for DUII, with a reported blood alcohol concentration twice the legal limit.

The Forest Grove Police Department was assisted by multiple agencies, including the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Beaverton Police, Sherwood Police, Forest Grove Fire and Rescue, American Medical Response, the Washington County Medical Examiner’s Office, and Forest Grove Public Works.

Pedestrian and Mobility-Device Fatality Statistics

Pedestrians using mobility aids—such as electric scooters, wheelchairs, and mobility scooters—are categorized as “vulnerable road users.” According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 7,388 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes in the United States in 2022, the highest number in four decades. Vulnerable pedestrians, including mobility-device users, are at significantly increased risk due to limited maneuverability and lower visibility.

In Oregon, pedestrian deaths have also been on the rise. Data from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) reported 146 pedestrian fatalities statewide in 2022, marking one of the highest annual totals in state history. Safety officials have noted that reduced lighting, impaired driving, and increased vehicle speeds continue to contribute to the upward trend.
