Malibu, CA – Two Killed, One Seriously Injured in Fiery Head-On Crash on Pacific Coast Highway Near Deer Creek Road

Malibu, CA – Two people lost their lives, and another suffered major injuries following a fiery two-vehicle collision that shut down a stretch of State Route 1 in Malibu Thursday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 6:55 PM on December 4, 2025, along Pacific Coast Highway, just south of Deer Creek Road.

CHP investigators said a 25-year-old man driving a Dodge Charger northbound crossed over the double-yellow lines for reasons still under investigation. The Charger collided head-on with a Chevrolet Tahoe operated by a 53-year-old man traveling southbound on PCH at the time of the impact.

First responders arrived to find both drivers unresponsive inside their vehicles. Despite immediate medical efforts, both men were pronounced deceased at the scene. A passenger riding in the Charger sustained major injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

The names of the deceased parties were not immediately released.

CHP noted that alcohol appears to have been a factor in the collision. All occupants were wearing seatbelts, and no arrests have been made as the investigation continues.

Fire crews and emergency responders worked quickly to extinguish the flames at the scene. Ventura County Fire, federal fire crews, Gold Coast Paramedics, Oxnard Fire, and California State Parks rangers all assisted in controlling the fire and ensuring the area was safe. Meanwhile, CHP officers and park rangers directed traffic and turned drivers around, as both directions of Pacific Coast Highway were closed while the investigation was underway

The crash led to a full closure of Highway 1 in the area. The roadway remained blocked for roughly three hours as firefighters, paramedics, and officers worked to secure the scene and clear debris. The highway was reopened around 10:10 PM, according to officials.

Safety Advice for Motorists and All Road Users

Drivers are urged to remain focused and alert at all times, especially when traveling on high-speed or narrow roadways. Staying within your lane, avoiding distractions, and never driving under the influence are critical steps in preventing severe collisions. Motorists should also reduce their speed during nighttime travel and remain aware of changing traffic or road conditions.

All road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists, are encouraged to practice extra caution by making themselves visible, using designated crossings or lanes when available, and anticipating that drivers may not always see them. Safe, responsible behavior from everyone on the road plays a vital role in reducing the risk of tragic accidents.
