Oakland, CA. – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car Thursday morning in downtown Oakland.

The crash occurred around 8:45 a.m. at the intersection of Eighth Street and Broadway.

Police say a vehicle hit the pedestrian for an unknown reason.

Officers responded and found the victim with severe injuries. The victim was transported to the hospital, but later died from their injuries.

Their identity has not yet been released.

The driver involved remained at the scene.

It is currently unknown whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the accident.

The Oakland Police Department’s Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating the crash.
