Bakersfield, CA. – 86-year-old Cecil Morse Walker died after he was hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle at an intersection in southwest Bakersfield, authorities reported.

The Bakersfield man was involved in the crash around 6:19 a.m. at Tower Way and Mohawk Street.

Police said Walker was riding his bicycle westbound on Tower Way when he failed to stop at a stop sign on Mohawk Street and got hit by a car traveling northbound on Mohawk Street.

First responders pronounced the cyclist dead at the scene.

The driver stopped and remained at the scene after the crash. Speed and impairment were not factors on the driver’s part.

Bakersfield, CA.- A vehicle struck and killed a bicyclist at an intersection in Bakersfield on Tuesday morning.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, authorities were notified at about 6:19 a.m. about the accident at Mohawk Street and Tower Way.

A preliminary investigation found that the bicyclist was heading west on Tower Way when he failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection and was hit by a vehicle traveling northbound on Mohawk Street.

The bicyclist succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

His name was not immediately released.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

The BPD reported that impairment and speed were not believed to be factors in the crash.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
