Murrieta, CA – One person was killed and a DUI suspect was arrested following a two-vehicle traffic collision at an intersection in Murrieta Thursday evening.
The deadly collision occurred at about 4:34 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, near the intersection of California Oaks Road and Skyview Ridge, Murrieta police said.
Investigators said Jaime Ruiz Jr., 39, was driving a pickup truck westbound on California Oaks when he ran a red light and collided with a sedan that was traveling through the intersection.
The driver of the sedan, identified as Patricia Garner, an 88-year-old Murrieta woman, was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at about 5:56 p.m. the same day.
According to Murrieta police, Ruiz had one child in the vehicle at the time of the collision. Ruiz was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. He was booked on suspicion of DUI Gross Vehicular Manslaughter, DUI resulting in injuries, and child endangerment.
Records show that he was released from jail Friday morning after posting $75,000 bond.
The child was taken into protective custody after it was determined they were not hurt in the incident.
No additional information is available at this time.
The crash is under investigation.
