82-Year-Old Seal Beach Man Killed in Huntington Beach Crash on PCH near Goldenwest Street

Huntington Beach, California (June 1, 2022) – An elderly man from Seal Beach died following a Huntington Beach auto accident on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Huntington Beach police.

At around 12:30 p.m. on May 31, a 2013 Volkswagen GTI and a 2005 Toyota Camry collided in the area of Pacific Coast Highway, just north of Goldenwest Street.

Police said an 82-year-old Seal Beach man was driving the Toyota south on the PCH when he went across the raised center median and into the northbound side, where he collided with the Volkswagen.

The elderly man died in the accident.

The other motorist, a 25-year-old woman from Huntington Beach, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital.

It wasn’t yet determined whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.

Both sides of the PCH were closed for hours as investigators worked at the scene.

The cause of the collision remained under investigation.

Remember to Buckle Up

No matter the type of car you are driving, buckling up remains the safest choice for drivers and passengers.
As you drive around during the Memorial Day holiday, you will come across more law enforcement officers on the freeways as part of the Click It or Ticket campaign launched last week by the NHTSA. The campaign began yesterday, May 23, and will run through to June 5. The campaign aims at reminding drivers and passengers of the importance of wearing a seat belt and the legal consequences of not buckling up.
According to statistics by NHTSA, over 15,000 lives were saved by seat belts in crashes that happened in 2017. In 2020, 10,893 unbuckled people in passenger vehicles died in crashes in the US. 60% of the young adults (ages 18 to 34) killed in the crashes were completely unrestrained.
Remember, seat belt safety starts with you! Your children are watching.
