A preliminary investigation indicated a northbound Nissan Sentra, operated by Patrick failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the highway where it was struck by a northbound Kenworth dump truck driven by Stehnike, causing the Kenworth to roll onto its side.

Uwe Stehnike Fatally Injured in Josephine County Accident on Highway 199 at Helms Road

Josephine County, OR. – Uwe Jens Stehnike ,85, of Grants Pass was killed and Joshua Chaska Patrick ,22, of Abbotsford (BC), hospitalized after a car crash on Highway 199 in Josephine County Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Oregon State Police, the mishap happened at around 12:23 p.m. October 29 on State Route 199 at Helms Road.

A preliminary investigation indicated a northbound Nissan Sentra, operated by Patrick failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the highway where it was struck by a northbound Kenworth dump truck driven by Stehnike, causing the Kenworth to roll onto its side.

Stehnike was pronounced dead at the scene.

Patrick fled the scene on foot and was later arrested nearby the scene. The operator suffered injuries and was provided medical treatment at an area hospital.

More information about the wreck was not provided.

An investigation is underway.
