Shao was a passenger in a Toyota Prius that collided head-on with a Honda CR-V.
California Highway Patrol officers said the CR-V was traveling north on Vasco Road when it crossed over the double-yellow lines, colliding with the southbound Prius.
Shao died at the crash scene.
The driver of the Prius and another passenger suffered major injuries.
The driver of the CR-V also sustained serious injuries.

Brentwood, CA. – One person was hurt in a head-on collision that took place Thursday night in Brentwood.
According to authorities, the wreck occurred around 6:10 p.m. on Vasco Road, just south of Camino Diablo.
CHP officers reported that a Honda CR-V heading north on Vasco Road crossed over the double-yellow lines and collided head-on with a Toyota Prius going south.
The Prius had three occupants. A passenger in the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and another passenger were hospitalized with major injuries.
The man driving the CR-V was also hospitalized with major injuries.
The crash is under investigation.
