Three People Injured in Crash on Highway 46 in San Luis Obispo County Identified

San Luis Obispo, CA. – Authorities identified the three people who were injured in a triple fatal wrong-way collision involving three cars that happened Sunday night near Shandon.

The three were 30-year-old Saundra Foutz from Paso Robles, who was driving a car in the wrong direction, 28-year-old Carlos Quinonez from , who was a passenger in one of the vehicles, and 38-year-old Jess Lopez, who was one of the drivers.

The California Highway Patrol said Foutz was driving a 2021 Mercedes westbound in the eastbound lane of Highway 46 when she collided head-on into an eastbound 2022 Honda just west of West Center Street.

Lopez was driving a 2015 Honda behind the 2022 Honda and was also involved in the collision.

The driver of the first Honda, only identified as a 24-year-old woman from Cutler, and two passengers in her car, a 27-year-old man from and a 32-year-old woman from were killed in the crash.

Quinonez was the third passenger in the first Honda and was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Foutz was found unconscious and was airlifted to a hospital where she underwent surgery and is now recovering.

Lopez suffered minor injuries but was not hospitalized.

No arrest had been made at the time of the report.

Authorities are investigating the collision.

San Luis Obispo, CA. – Three people died in a collision involving a wrong-way driver near Shandon in San Luis Obispo on Sunday night.

The triple-fatal crash happened on Highway 46 near West Center Street at around 10:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 30-year-old Paso Robles woman was driving a 2021 Mercedes westbound in the eastbound lanes when she collided head-on with a 2022 Honda.

A third vehicle that was traveling eastbound behind the Honda also collided with the Honda.

The driver of the Honda, identified only as a 24-year-old woman from Cutler, was killed in the accident.

A 32-year-old woman from Sanger and a 27-year-old Reedley man who were riding in the Honda were killed in the accident.

A third passenger of the Honda, a resident of Orange Cove, was hospitalized with major injuries.

The driver of the third vehicle suffered minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital.

More details about the accident were not released.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
