Santa Barbara, CA – A Friday evening accident involving an Amtrak train left a pedestrian dead in Santa Barbara, the authorities reported.
The accident took place just after 6 p.m. February 14, in the 1800 block of East Cabrillo Boulevard next to the Santa Barbara Cemetery, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department.
A preliminary investigation reveals that a man was on the tracks when a northbound Amtrak train struck him. It’s unclear why the pedestrian was on the train tracks.
The SBPD officers responded to the scene and performed CPR on the victim untilfirefighters arrived and took over.
The Santa Barbara City Fire Department and the Montecito Fire Protection District arrived shortly after and the victim was transported by AMR ambulance to Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The victim’s name and age were not released in the initial reports pending notification of the next-of-kin.
The report did not specify whether the train services were impacted by the accident.
