San Francisco, CA – A young child was killed Sunday morning after being struck by a vehicle in San Francisco’s Hayes Valley neighborhood, authorities said.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the child seriously injured in the roadway.
Police and paramedics immediately rendered aid before the child was transported to a local hospital, where they later died from their injuries.
The driver involved in the collision remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Police have not indicated whether any arrests have been made or whether drugs or alcohol are suspected as contributing factors.
SFPD has not released the child’s name, age, or gender. However, neighbors told local media that the victim was a young boy between approximately 18 months and 2 years old and that his family had lived in the neighborhood for many years.
Residents described the intersection as busy, with frequent vehicle and pedestrian traffic, and expressed concerns about safety in the area. A memorial of flowers was placed at the intersection in honor of the child.
The incident remains under investigation by the SFPD.
