San Francisco, CA – Multiple people were injured Friday evening in a two-vehicle traffic collision that happened at an intersection in San Francisco, according to the San Francisco Police Department.
Officers responded to reports of the crash at approximately 5:37 p.m., January 2, in the area of Mission Street and Onondaga Avenue.
Upon arrival, the officers located two vehicles involved and confirmed that a total of 12 people were affected by the collision.
Paramedics transported four individuals to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Eight others were treated at the scene and did not require hospitalization.
Police said drugs or alcohol do not appear to have been factors.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
San Francisco’s traffic safety remains a challenge despite Vision Zero initiatives launched in 2014 to eliminate fatalities by 2024. In 2024, the city recorded 39-43 fatal collisions, resulting in 41-43 deaths—the highest in over a decade—with pedestrians and vulnerable users disproportionately affected (drivers at fault in nearly 50% of pedestrian fatalities). Males comprised 81% of victims. 2025 saw a sharp improvement, with fatalities dropping nearly 50% to around 24, attributed to street redesigns, speed reductions, and enhanced enforcement. Pedestrians, especially older adults (75% of pedestrian deaths), and hit-and-runs persist as key concerns. Injury crashes concentrate on the High Injury Network (12% of streets accounting for 68% of severe incidents).
