Santa Diego, CA – A person was fatally struck by a vehicle in the El Cerrito neighborhood of San Diego on Thursday night, according to the San Diego Police Department.

The incident took place in the 6000 block of El Cajon Boulevard at around 8:43 p.m. on August 20.

According to police, a 28-year-old man was driving a Honda Civic westbound on El Cajon Boulevard when he crashed into a man pushing a shopping cart in the right lane.

The victim was declared deceased at the scene. He was only identified as a 61-year-old man but his name was not immediately released.

The driver of the Honda was at the scene when authorities arrived and was cooperative with law enforcement.

According to investigators, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs was not suspected to have factored in the incident.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by the San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Division.
