Preliminary investigations revealed that a driver in a Lexus was allegedly traveling recklessly on the highway when the vehicle collided with a Subaru. The impact of the collision caused the Subaru to roll over and it burst into flames on the side of the highway.
The CHP and Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded to the scene and helped the people involved in the wreck. One of the drivers had to be extricated by the fire crews, who also put out vehicle fire and grass fire sparked by the accident.
A 5-year-old girl in the Subaru and at least one other person in the vehicle were transported to a hospital for treatment of minor to moderate injuries.
The accident led to the closure of Highway 50 lanes as crews worked to clear the scene.
No further details on the accident were immediately released. The California Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation to establish the cause of the collision.
