Sacramento, CA – A man died after he was hit by a vehicle Tuesday night on Highway 50 in Sacramento, the California Highway Patrol reported

The incident occurred just before 10 p.m. on September 8, 2026, on westbound Highway 50 just east of Interstate 5.

According to CHP logs, a driver called authorities reporting that they had hit a pedestrian who was lying down in traffic lanes. The victim, a white male adult wearing a white shirt, was lying down in the slow lane.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

It was unclear if another car initially hit the pedestrian and fled the scene.

CHP officers closed several lanes of the freeway east of the Interstate 5 interchange following the crash.
