Bakersfield, CA. – One person died Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle on a highway in Bakersfield, according to authorities.
The crash was reported shortly before 9:40 p.m. on Weedpatch Highway, also known as State Route 184, near Muller Road.
A person believed to be riding a bicycle was heading northbound on the highway when a northbound car approached the rear of the bike.
The driver struck the rider, throwing them into the east dirt shoulder of the highway.
Emergency crews found the victim fatally injured at the scene.
The Kern County Coroner's Office was called to the scene just after 10 p.m.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances leading up to the collision. Additional details about the driver or the victim have not yet been released.
