1 Hospitalized after Bakersfield Work Accident on California Avenue and Easton Drive

Bakersfield, California (December 2, 2022) – An oil worker was critically injured when a rig blowout happened near an intersection in Bakersfield, as per a local news source.
The incident occurred near California Avenue and Easton Drive near Bakersfield Police Department academy.
Bakersfield Fire Department received reports of a potential oil rig explosion and major injuries and treated it as a fire. The firefighters dispatched a truck, two engines, a safety officer and a public information officer.
Bakersfield police also responded to the scene.
The worker was filling an abandoned oil rig when a rig blowout occurred and blew him off the platform.
First responders provided field care to the victim’s legs before an ambulance arrived and took him to Kern Medical with critical injuries, including multiple fractures to both legs and extreme bleeding.
The blowout also damaged a nearby building, and a pipe flew off and hit the solar panels at Omni, but no injuries were reported there.
Hazmat responded to the scene as a precaution, but no fire or gas leakage was found.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
