A preliminary investigation determined that a vehicle carrying three people was involved in the crash with a second car. Authorities are yet to establish what caused the vehicles to crash.
National City police and the California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene to investigate the crash.
Firefighters and medical crews also responded and rendered aid to the victims of the crash. Two people were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
