1 Killed in Stanislaus County Crash on Dusty Lane and Albers Road near Modesto

Modesto, CA.– Authorities are investigating a multi-vehicle collision that claimed the life of one person in rural Stanislaus County early Thursday morning.

According to the authorities, the incident transpired in the area of Dusty Lane and Albers Road near Modesto shortly before 4 a.m.

The California Highway Patrol reported that a Chrysler sedan, believed to have been traveling south on Albers Road, drifted into the northbound side and collided head-on with an oncoming Nissan pickup truck.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and found two parties trapped in the two vehicles. The driver of the truck, identified as a 55-year-old Modesto man, was declared deceased at the scene.

The sedan driver, a 23-year-old man from Winton, was transported to Oak Valley Hospital with critical injuries.

No information was provided on whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the accident. The circumstances under which the crash occurred remained under investigation by the CHP.

Modesto has a relatively larger population that has been steadily growing in recent years. For many years, the city has been recording a high number of traffic accidents, and it has raised many concerns on road safety in Stanislaus County. According to the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) records, 2066 people were injured or killed in traffic collisions within Modesto in 2022. This was a slight increase from 2021 when it recorded 1999 victims of auto accidents. DUI played a role in nearly 14% of the accidents while speed was a factor in 8% of the incidents in 2022. Being the largest city in the County, Modesto has some of the most dangerous roads and intersection that have been experiencing traffic crashes. Some of dangerous places include the Fourth and K streets intersection and areas around SR 99 that are notoriously known for illegal street racing. Factors like speeding, failure to yiled while making turns  and collisions at high volume intersections play major roles in many Modesto car accidents.
