Mario Rivera and Stephany Cartagena-Bronfield Killed in South Los Angeles Crash on 110 Freeway near Slauson Avenue
South Los Angeles, California (August 3, 2021) – Mario Mazariegos Rivera, 43, and Stephany Cartagena- Bronfield, 26, both from Los Angeles, have been identified as the victims who were killed in a head-on collision that happened on Sunday morning in South Los Angeles.
The deadly crash happened at about 4:40 a.m., August 1, on the southbound side of the Harbor (110) Freeway near Slauson Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2017 Buick Regal driven by Warnervee Walton,30, of Los Angeles broadsided a 2014 Hyundai Elantra driven by Rivera.
Rivera and his passenger, Cartagena-Bronfield, were pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.
Investigators later determined that Walton was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident.
Walton was ultimately arrested on suspicion of DUI.
More details regarding the collision were not immediately available.
The accident remains under investigation.
