Livermore, CA – Two people were severely injured in a head-on collision that happened Tuesday night in Livermore, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The incident occurred around 9:16 p.m., January 20, on 5712 Mines Road.

Two vehicles collided head-on for an unknown reason. One of the vehicles caught fire, and a person was trapped inside the other car.

Firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene shortly after the crash.

One person sustained major trauma in the crash. The victim was unresponsive but breathing. Another person sustained a broken leg.

Both lanes of Mines Road were closed until 10:39 p.m.

Authorities are investigating to determine the cause of the accident.
