Lewis County, WA – An elderly woman was transported to a hospital after being involved in a chain-reaction collision in Lewis County on Sunday afternoon, according to a report by the Washington State Patrol.
The accident was reported at around 3:13 p.m. August 23, on Interstate 5 near milepost 80 in Chehalis.
Authorities reported that two vehicles were traveling southbound on Interstate 5 when they slowed down for traffic ahead. A third vehicle failed to slow down and crashed into the back of the second vehicle, which was then pushed into the back of the first vehicle.
A fourth driver stopped to avoid the crash sene but was also hit from behind by a fifth vehicle. The impact sent one of the vehicles into a vehice involved in the initial collision.
After the crash, all vehicles came to a rest blocking the left lane of southbound I-5.
One of the involved drivers, an 81-year-old woman from Lacey, was taken to Providence Centralia Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
According to WSP, following too closely was identified as a contributing factor in the incident. The investigation is still ongoing.
