Hayward, California (September 2, 2021) – A pedestrian died after being struck by an Amtrak train Thursday morning in Hayward, according to authorities.

The deadly accident took place at around 7:10 a.m. near the Hayward Amtrak Station, which is located in the 22555 block of Meekland Avenue.

Authorities said the pedestrian, only identified as a male victim, was walking on railroad tracks when he was hit by Capitol Corridor Train No. 524 that was traveling from San Jose to Sacramento.

Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck by Train in Hayward

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

None of the 13 passengers on board the train was hurt.

The train was halted for nearly two hours as the authorities conduct an investigation.

The crash remains under investigation.
