Fresno remains one of the state’s most challenging cities for road safety, though recent data reflects a localized shift toward severity reduction. In 2024, Fresno recorded 1,647 injury-involved accidents and 49 fatalities, ranking it the 11th most dangerous city for total crashes and the 3rd deadliest in California according to SWITRS data. Notably, the fatal injury rate at Fresno intersections is 73.5% higher than the cross-city average, with high-speed corridors like Blackstone Avenue and Highway 99 serving as primary hot spots for multi-vehicle and pedestrian collisions.
While Fresno saw a promising 11% dip in fatalities in 2023- aligning with a broader California trend – injury collisions remain stubbornly frequent, averaging seven to eight police-reported crashes daily.
