Eric Cripe Arrested after Fatal San Diego Motorcycle Crash on SR 79 near Palomar Mountain

San Diego, California (August 23, 2021) – Eric Cripe, 53, of Escondido, was arrested after a deadly San Diego crash that killed a motorcyclist on Sunday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident happened at about 3:27 p.m. on State Route 79 between Aguanga and Oak Grove, near Palomar Mountain.

CHP said a 2002 Toyota Tundra driven by Cripe was heading north on SR 79 when it drifted off the east side for unknown reasons. Cripe then overcorrected back into the roadway and collided with a southbound 1991 Harley Davidson Sportster.

The impact ejected the motorcyclist, a 33-year-old San Diego man, from the motorcycle.

The rider was pronounced deceased at the scene. His name was not released pending notification of the next of kin.

Cripe was arrested on suspicion of murder and DUI. 

A SigAlert was issued, closing all lanes of the freeway in both directions.

The crash is under investigation.
