The wreck happened around 3:11 p.m. Sunday, when a vehicle carrying the Reno family veered off the roadway and struck a tree east of Kyburz, according to the California Highway Patrol.

El Dorado County, CA – Authorities have identified the parents killed in a devastating single-vehicle crash on Highway 50 near Kyburz that also left the couple’s two young children with major injuries.
42-year-old Ryan Paul Rizzuto, and his wife, 41-year-old Danielle Marie Rizzuto died in the crash.
The wreck happened around 3:11 p.m. Sunday, when a vehicle carrying the Reno family veered off the roadway and struck a tree east of Kyburz, according to the California Highway Patrol.
An 8-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl were trapped inside the wreckage, and rescuers worked for hours to extricate them before rushing them to trauma care. Their conditions have not been updated.
Their parents were pronounced dead at the scene, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Wednesday.
Ryan Rizzuto served as a battalion chief with the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District. The department said it is mourning the sudden loss and has activated critical-incident support for its personnel.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
