Santa Rosa, CA. – One person was severely hurt when two vehicles collided Tuesday morning at an intersection in Santa Rosa.
According to the Santa Rosa Police Department, the wreck occurred around 9:10 a.m. at Mendocino Avenue and Fountaingrove Parkway.
An initial investigation revealed that a green Toyota car was stopped on the Mendocino Avenue overcrossing, preparing to turn left to continue northbound on Mendocino.
A red Nissan approached the Toyota and stopped behind it.
Police said when the light turned green, the Nissan sped forward and slammed into the back of the Toyota. Both vehicles moved through the intersection onto Fountaingrove Parkway.
The Toyota stopped on the parkway, and the Nissan allegedly struck a nearby light pole, downing it.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and found the driver of the Nissan unconscious and injured. The patient was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police said the driver of the Nissan may have experienced a medical emergency prior to the accident.
An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
