Clovis, CA. – A man riding an electric scooter was seriously injured Saturday afternoon after being struck in a multi-vehicle collision at the intersection of Clovis Avenue and Santa Ana Avenue, according to the Clovis Police Department.
Officers responded to the scene just after 12:30 p.m., where they found the rider had been hit while crossing in the crosswalk. The collision involved three vehicles and the e-scooter rider.
The rider was traveling south in the crosswalk on Clovis Avenue when a Nissan, waiting to make a turn onto Santa Ana, was rear-ended by a pickup truck. The impact pushed the Nissan into the rider.
Emergency personnel transported the man to a local hospital with major injuries. His current condition has not been released.
Police confirmed that all drivers involved in the crash remained at the scene and are cooperating with investigators. Authorities stated there is no indication that drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.
The Clovis Police Department's Collision Reconstruction Unit is actively investigating the circumstances that led to the crash. Residents are reminded to exercise caution when traveling near busy intersections.
In 2023, Clovis experienced a significant increase in traffic collisions, with crashes rising by 13% compared to the previous year. The number of collisions resulting in injuries was also higher. This increase highlights specific areas of concern within the city, particularly several busy intersections. The intersection of Shaw and Willow saw the highest number of incidents, with 34 crashes reported in 2023. The intersections of Shaw and Clovis, followed by Shaw and Villa, were the next most collision-prone locations. Distracted driving is a leading cause of fatal accidents statewide in California, and authorities in Clovis have encouraged drivers to reduce distractions and slow down to improve safety.
