Murrieta, CA.- An alleged DUI driver was arrested at the scene of a crash that left a passenger dead in Murrieta early Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident happened at around 1:30 a.m. November 1, on the 215 Freeway.
According to CHP, Andrea Margarita Villalta, 28, of Los Angeles, was driving a 2022 Toyota Prius westbound on the freeway when she drifted off the right shoulder.
The car crashed into a tree on the side of the freeway at a high rate of speed.
One of the passengers in the Toyota, identified as Brandy Joya, 30, of Riverside, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Murrieta Fire & Rescue crew.
Three other passengers, a 28-year-old Los Angeles woman, a 25-year-old Los Angeles woman, and a 28-year-old San Diego man, were transported to a trauma center with serious injuries.
Villalta was taken into custody and was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
She was later booked into the Byrd Detention Center on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony DUI, and DUI causing injuries.
Her bond was set at $60,000 and the CHP report indicates that she was released the same day.
The incident is under investigation by the CHP.
