, CA.- A boy was critically injured in a crash involving a suspected DUI driver in East Bakersfield on Monday afternoon, according to Bakersfield police.

Emergency crews responded at about 12:09 p.m. to the crash in the 1400 block of East California Avenue near Haley Street.

According to a preliminary investigation, a pickup truck was traveling westbound on East California Avenue when the driver lost control and crashed through a fence.

The truck ended up in a parking lot, where it struck a father and his 8-year-old son.

The boy sustained critical injuries while his father had moderate injuries. They were both rushed to a hospital for treatment.

The driver, identified as Andres Serna, 33, was determined to have been driving under the influence of alcohol.

He was taken into custody and transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating the accident.
