Blythe, CA – At least two people died in a head-on collision involving a wrong-way driver that happened Sunday morning on the 10 Freeway in Blythe, authorities reported.

The accident occurred around 6:35 a.m. on August 2, 2026, on the westbound Redlands (10) Freeway near mile marker 124.

According to the California Highway Patrol, around 6:30 a.m. Sunday, authorities received reports of a driver traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the freeway. About five minutes later, a head-on collision involving a wrong-way driver was reported.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene and transported two people to Desert Regional Medical Center.

At least two people were killed in the accident, prompting the Riverside County Coroner’s Office to respond to the scene.

The report did not mention the exact number of people who were in each car. It was also unclear if the victims were the drivers or passengers, and if the ones who died were the only ones who were injured or not.

Authorities closed the freeway near the collision scene for investigation.
