, California (September 5, 2021) – A police officer on a motorcycle was injured in a crash that took place on Saturday afternoon in Berkeley, according to authorities.

The incident happened in the area of Street and Dwight Way at around 1:20 p.m. September 4.

According to the report, two Berkeley Police Department officers were riding motorbikes with their lights and sirens on responding to an injury collision in South Berkeley. 

The officers were southbound on Sacramento and other motorists stopped to yield to the officers. An 18-year-old girl failed to yield and made a left turn from northbound Sacramento Street onto Dwight, colliding with one of the officers.

Police Officer Hurt in Berkeley Motorcycle Accident

Some people who witnessed the crash stopped to help the officer until the medics arrived. The officer was transported to Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, including a possible broken leg.

The teenage girl stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigators.

Impairment was not believed to be a factor in the crash. 

The CHP is investigating the incident.
