A Toyota Sienna minivan with multiple occupants veered off the roadway and crashed into a tree.
Authorities believe the vehicle was heading southbound on Pope Valley Road when the crash happened.
First responders pronounced six people dead at the scene.
The male driver and one passenger were flown to local trauma centers with serious injuries.
The driver was placed under arrest while at the hospital on suspicion of driving while impaired, causing injury or death.
Pope Valley Road was shut down for an extended period following the accident.
