Four People Injured in Bakersfield Car Crash at Niles and Virginia Streets
Bakersfield, California (September 4, 2021) – Four people were injured in a Saturday morning traffic accident in East Bakersfield, authorities said.
The accident occurred just after 12:45 a.m., on August 28, at Niles and Virginia streets.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a black 2004 Chevy Silverado, driven by Abram Parra Pantoja, 27, of Arvin, was headed northbound on Virginia Street approaching Niles Street as a sheriff's deputy was driving a marked patrol vehicle westbound on Niles approaching Virginia Street.
The Silverado reportedly ran a red light and entered the intersection, hitting the patrol vehicle before crashing into a traffic pole and overturning in an adjacent parking lot.
4 Injured in 2-Vehicle Crash at Niles and Virginia Streets
The deputy suffered moderate injuries. Two women passengers in the Silverado suffered major injuries, and a man in the pickup sustained minor injuries.
The CHP said that Pantoja fled the scene but was arrested on Monday on suspicion of felony DUI, hit and run, and driving on a suspended license.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
