Thermal, CA. — 22-year-old Jean Muhire died Monday night following a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 in Thermal, authorities reported.
The collision occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on the westbound lanes of I-10 east of Dillon Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Investigators said a 2019 Honda sedan was traveling westbound when it attempted to pass a 2018 Ram pickup truck and turned left, striking the right front side of the truck.
The Honda then went down an embankment and overturned.
The driver of the Honda, later identified as Muhire from Litchfield Park, Arizona, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The pickup's occupants, a 19-year-old driver from Surprise, Arizona, and his 20-year-old passenger from Anaheim, were not injured.
Authorities said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.
CHP is investigating the incident.
