The DPS reported that a Subaru SUV was traveling eastbound on westbound Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway when it sideswiped an oncoming Hyundai passenger car

Tempe, AZ.- One person was killed in a crash involving a wrong-way driver near Tempe early Monday morning, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
The incident took place at about 12:05 a.m. on Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway near Priest Drive.
The DPS reported that a Subaru SUV was traveling eastbound on westbound Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway when it sideswiped an oncoming Hyundai passenger car.
The Subaru then collided head-on with a westbound Kia passenger car and the impact caused the Subaru to overturn onto its roof.
The driver of the Kia was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The operator of the Subaru was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The diver of the Hyundai reportedly fled the scene after the accident and abandoned the vehicle a short distance from the scene.
According to DPS, impairment is suspected to have played a role in the crash, which remained under investigation.
